Types of Agricultural Fencing

Colorado Springs Fence Company can help with any Agricultural fencing including:

Split Rail Fences

Traditional split rail fencing offers rustic charm while defining property boundaries without blocking scenic views.

Cattle Panel Fencing

Durable welded wire cattle panels provide effective livestock containment at reasonable cost. We install cattle panels with sturdy posts to create secure enclosures for cattle, horses, and other large animals.

Horse Fencing Solutions

Keep your horses safe with fencing designed specifically for equine containment. The most common horse fencing options include vinyl rail fencing and barb-less wire fences, both of which minimize injury risk while providing effective boundaries.

Field & Perimeter Fencing

Secure large properties with efficient field and perimeter fencing. We install various agricultural fence types suited to different applications, from simple barbed wire to more elaborate containment systems.

Farm & Ranch Fence Gates

Agricultural gates must handle heavy use and large openings. We install sturdy farm gates sized for equipment access, livestock movement, and daily operation demands.

Fence Options

Split Rail Fence Options

While most people refer to all horizontal rail fencing as “split rail,” there are technical distinctions worth understanding.

Split Rail Fencing

Features traditional logs split lengthwise and stacked in post-and-rail configurations. Available in heights of 3ft or 4ft.

Post and Dowel Fencing

Uses round rails inserted into posts for a cleaner appearance. Available in heights of 3ft, 4ft, or 5ft.

Ranch Rail Fencing

Consists of dimensional lumber attached to posts and can be built as tall as needed.

Understanding these differences helps ensure you get exactly what you’re envisioning—and expecting to pay for—since cost differences can be significant.

Fence Repair Services

Farm and ranch fences take a beating from livestock, weather, and wildlife. We provide repair services for damaged posts, broken rails, sagging wire, and storm damage. Regular maintenance keeps your agricultural fencing functional and extends its lifespan, protecting your investment in both fencing and livestock.

Livestock & Property Protection

Proper fencing is essential for livestock safety and property security. The right fence keeps your animals contained, predators out, and property boundaries clearly defined. We help you select fencing appropriate to your specific livestock—horses require different fencing than cattle, and each species has unique behavioral considerations that affect fence design and materials.

Wildlife Fence Colorado

Colorado’s wildlife presents unique fencing challenges. We can design and install fencing that deters deer, elk, and other wildlife from damaging crops and landscaping while allowing your livestock to graze safely. Taller fences and specific design features make wildlife exclusion possible even in areas with significant animal pressure.

FAQs

Farm & Ranch Fence FAQs

Get answers to common questions about our fencing services.

The most common and effective horse fencing options are vinyl rail fencing and barb-less wire fences. Vinyl rail fencing provides highly visible boundaries that horses respect while eliminating sharp edges and splinters that can cause injuries. Barb-less wire, often called "horse wire," offers affordable containment without the injury risk of barbed wire. Wood rail fencing works well too but requires more maintenance. The best choice depends on your budget, property size, and whether you need maximum visibility or are working with well-trained horses.

Split rail fence pricing varies based on rail type (traditional split rail, post and dowel, or ranch rail), number of rails (2-rail versus 3-rail), linear footage, terrain difficulty, and whether you're adding wire for small animal containment. Larger projects benefit from better per-foot rates. The best way to get accurate pricing is to contact us with your specific requirements so we can provide a detailed estimate.

The primary difference is height and visual impact. Two-rail fences are generally 3 feet tall and work well for decorative boundaries or areas where maximum visibility is desired. Three-rail fences stand approximately 4 feet tall and provide more substantial visual barriers. Ranch rail fences can be built even taller to meet specific needs. Keep in mind that fences over 7 feet tall require permits in El Paso County.

Barbed wire fencing is the traditional and most cost-effective option for cattle containment. It provides effective boundaries that cattle quickly learn to respect while covering large acreages economically. For smaller cattle operations or properties where aesthetics matter, alternatives like pipe rail or cable fencing work well but cost more per linear foot.

For properties with smaller animals like goats, dogs, or miniature horses that could escape through or under split rail fencing, we can add commercial-grade welded wire to the inside of the fence. This heavy-duty wire mesh is significantly stronger than retail welded wire and provides effective containment while maintaining the split rail aesthetic. The wire attaches to the inside of the posts and rails, creating a secure barrier without detracting from the fence's appearance.
